Diyarbakır Solar Power Capacity Development Project

In recent months, a call for proposal has been initiated in the scope of United Kingdom Ankara Embassy Welfare Fund [1]. Project proposals in the fields of economy, climate change and energy efficiency/safety are accepted and evaluated. This fund is provided for low carbon economy and flexible energy markets, as well as to promote science and innovation in order to address global problems. In this context, as Lifenerji, our project proposal that is entitled “Diyarbakır Solar Power Capacity Development Project” has been accepted in the field of climate change.

Within the scope of this project that we will carry out between May-December 2015:

  • Writing a guideline on development of solar power project;
  • Providing a capacity development training to Diyarbakır Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) staff to guide their members for investing in solar power projects;
  • Providing training on Solar Power Projects and investments to the representatives of the companies that are operating in Diyarbakır and surrounding provinces;
  • Organizing seminars on sharing knowledge and experience with participants from different solar energy sectors;

will be carried out.

One of the most important reasons of choosing this project’s subject as the development of solar power capacity is that renewable energy sources such as solar power should be popularised as much as possible, since effects of climate change are felt seriously nowadays. Turkey’s electricity energy is supplied by burning fossil fuels with an installed capacity of nearly 60%, which is the prime reason of global warming and has a serious impact on climate change. On the other hand, the installed capacity share of solar power plants in Turkey is 0.1% [2]. In this context, the objective of this project is to provide capacity development and to reach the investors for increasing investments in solar power, in a province with a high potential [3] of Solar Power like Diyarbakır, in cooperation with Diyarbakır Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Moreover, a user-friendly guideline will be prepared in which solar power projects will be examined under two main headings as land type and roof type.
