Life Enerji has actualised the carbon footprint calculation as a unit of carbon dioxide to specify the amount of greenhouse gas emissions. Life Enerji, having calculated the amount of greenhouse gas emissions from its corporate activities, did the carbon footprint calculation according to the GHG Protocol calculation methods and calculated the emission value as 40 tCO2e in 2017. Life Enerji has become a carbon-neutral company by purchasing Gold Standard certifications to balance emissions this year as well.
Consumptions of electricity, natural gas for heating, business travels, paper, water, solid waste and food and beverage consumption were taken into consideration in the corporate carbon footprint calculation of Life Enerji in the year of 2017.
As the first step, “purpose” should be defined in the calculation of corporate carbon footprint. The purposes of instutional carbon footprint calculation of Life Enerji in the year of 2017 is, specifying the reduction goal of carbon dioxide emissions, identifiying the CO2 reduction precautions and equalising and calculating emissions.
Carbon footprint limits and scopes should be chosen according to the method specified by the GHG Protocol Standard with the purpose of determination. Life enerji has chosen the administrative control limit for corporate reporting. The administrative control limit is the calculating with carbon footprint and reporting of emissions caused by all activities under the company’s daily administrative controls. Scope 1 and 2 emissions must be included in the activity limits. Scope 3 emissions are added to the calculation optionally. Life Enerji 2017 in the carbon footprint calculation; scope 1 emissions which is including emissions from company vehicles, scope 2 emissions caused by electricity usage and other indirect emissions were included in the calculation with scope 3 emissions.
After the limits and scope of the carbon footprint calculation are determined, the data about activities are collected. Then, emission factors and global warming potentials are specified. The latest emission factors must be made sure to be used, as the data may change over the time. The useful guidance list for emission factors is; GHG Protocol guidance, guidance of IPCC , and guidance published by DEFRA. With the corporate carbon footprint calculation of Life Enerji of 2017, CO2 reduction precautions have been specified. Balanced by receiving of certificates from a renewable energy power plant which has Gold Standard certification, Life Enerji now has net “zero” emission. Thus, Life Enerji has become carbon neutral.
